The Benefits of Dental Implants
Prevent Bone Loss
Dental implants fuse with the jaw bone. Similar to a natural tooth root, the post stimulates the bone, keeping the jaw strong and healthy. When missing teeth are not replaced with dental implants, the jaw bone does not receive stimulation and may deteriorate over time.
Maintaining good oral hygiene with your implants is easy. There are no special rinses or adhesives necessary—simply brush and floss your implants like natural teeth and see your dentist for regular checkups. With proper dental care, your dental implant can last a lifetime.
Protect Your Bite
When teeth are missing, other teeth may shift into the open space, causing misalignment and bite problems. Dental shifting may lead to an improper bite (malocclusion) which can cause facial pain, additional wear on the teeth, TMJ pain, and other health issues.
Restore Your Confidence
Having a smile that you feel proud of makes a tremendous difference in your self-esteem. When you feel confident about your smile, you can eat comfortably and feel like yourself again with a healthy and complete set of teeth.

Dental Implant Procedure
During your first visit, Dr. Ahn will take 3D scans of your mouth and design your custom treatment plan. We will explain your restoration options and help you choose the right type of anesthesia for your comfort.
On the day of your procedure, we will administer the anesthesia and wait for it to take effect. Dr. Ahn will make an incision in the gum tissue and insert the implant post. Sometimes, the abutment is attached to the implant at this time. If not, you will return for a second procedure to uncover the implant and attach the abutment. We may attach a temporary crown to wear while the implant heals. After the healing process, which can take several months, your dentist will place your final crown.
Cost of Dental Implants—Medicare, Dental Insurance, Financing, and More
Medicare and medical insurances generally do not cover dental implants unless the procedure is considered medically necessary, and they are very strict about how they define a medically necessary procedure. If you experienced tooth loss due to trauma, tumor removal, or certain medical conditions, Medicare or your medical insurance carrier might cover your dental implants.
Although Medicare and medical insurances do not cover the dental implants, there are additional diagnostic and surgical procedures that they may cover. These include consultation fees, 3D scans, surgical guides, bone grafting, or tooth extraction.
We are one of the few oral and maxillofacial surgery practices in the Orange County area that work with Medicare. If you do not have Medicaid or insurance coverage, we also work with healthcare financing companies to create an affordable monthly payment plan. Denture Replacement With Dental Implants
The All-on-4® treatment concept is an excellent solution for patients who wear dentures, but who desire a healthier and more secure option for tooth replacement. Traditional dentures often cause discomfort and oral sores when not professionally fitted. Although cheaper upfront, dentures must be replaced every few years, which can become expensive over time.
Dental implants are an investment in your smile. Several implant posts can support a fixed denture, providing you with a natural-looking arch of teeth. The implant posts prevent jaw bone loss, which preserves your facial structure and benefits your oral health. If you wear dentures and are ready for a better tooth replacement solution, contact our office to learn about denture replacement in Aliso Viejo, CA.
Types of Dental Implants
There are several types of dental implant treatments available and during your first visit, Dr. Ahn will determine the right treatment for your needs.
- Single Tooth Replacement. One implant can replace a missing or failing tooth anywhere in the mouth. Dental implants are strong and can replace front teeth, canine teeth, and even molars.
- Multiple Tooth Replacement. An implant-supported bridge can restore multiple teeth next to each other, or we can place multiple throughout the mouth.
- Immediate Implants. If you are having a tooth extracted and have sufficient jaw bone to support an implant, we may be able to insert your replacement tooth immediately following extraction.
- Full-Arch Restoration. Using as few as four implants, we can attach a fixed denture that looks and functions just like a natural arch of teeth.

Reviews From Our Dental Implants Patients
Georgia Reviews Her Dental Implants Procedure
"Hi, my name's Georgia. I’m from San Clemente, and I came to see Dr. Ahn for dental implants. I cracked a couple of teeth, and they needed quite a bit of work to get them back into shape again. Having never had something like that before, I was very nervous about coming in, but it ended up being a great experience all the way around. Seeing Dr. Ahn for the first time, he’s very quiet, easygoing, calm, made me feel completely relaxed from the moment I came into the office. He was very good at explaining things when things needed to be explained. It made me feel very confident that he knew what he was doing and that everything that was getting done was going to be done right. He just made me feel comfortable from the beginning to the end. It took a while to get to the point where I have the implants and the crowns on, but I love it. I feel like I have perfect teeth again, and it’s totally worth the time to come in and have it all done, so I’m very happy with it. I would say, if you live around this area, anywhere from Lake Forest, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo, even as far south as I am in San Clemente, I would highly recommend that you come to this office for any work like implants. It would be totally worth the drive, even if it’s further than that. This would be an awesome office to come see."
Bob Reviews His Dental Implants Procedure
"Hi, my name is Bob. I live in the thriving metropolis of Laguna Woods. Another doctor did an implant; two weeks later, as I was having my Thanksgiving dinner, out it came, and I had this lovely implant in my hand. I went back to my dentist who said, “I’m going to send you down to Dr. Ahn. He does it right and he does it the first time.” He is determined that everything is going to be done right, and it’s going to be done by the numbers. We sat down, we got comfortable with each other; he explained exactly what he had to do. I would recommend Dr. Ahn without any hesitation. If you want a doctor, Dr. Ahn is the person who will do it right the first time, and you will be delighted."
Rob Reviews His Dental Implants Procedure
"Hi, I’m Rob; I’m from Tustin, California, and I’ve lived in the Orange County area for about 10-15 years now. I’ve had a lot of experience with dental issues over the last 20-30 years, so I’ve gone through a lot of oral surgeons in terms of trying to find somebody that I felt was qualified and had everything I was looking for. Dr. Ahn – he has what I consider a complete package. He's got very good people skills, he’s got the professional knowledge to do the implants like they should be done, and the staff is outstanding. I would definitely recommend Dr. Ahn at OC Oral Surgery."
Cheryl Reviews Her Dental Implants Procedure
"Hi, my name is Cheryl, and I live in Mission Viejo, and I’d like to share my experience with Dr. Ahn’s office. I had lost a molar, and Dr. Ahn replaced that space with an implant. Everything went smoothly – my follow-ups went smoothly, and the procedure, as well. I felt so confident in the office and Dr. Ahn that I have referred my daughter and my grandchildren. I’ve been in the orthodontic field for several years, which gave me an opportunity to refer several patients to the office. Following up with each patient, as we normally do, I have to say that every patient was satisfied, and they’ve referred other patients. I can highly recommend Dr. Ahn, and would I go to him again? Absolutely! My daughter feels the same way, so we’ve had three generations of our family coming here, and I think that speaks for itself."
Frank Reviews His Dental Implants Procedure
"My name's Frank, and I am from the city of Laguna Niguel. I’d neglected my mouth for years and years, and I had three teeth that needed to be pulled. My dentist sent me to Dr. Ahn. It was wonderful. When I came into the office, I was greeted by the staff. Dr. Ahn's a dream. I’ve been to oral surgeons before and usually they don’t tell you anything. Dr. Ahn is very good at explaining what he’s going to do, what’s wrong, what the solution is. When I came in here, I needed three teeth extracted, then he recommended that I get implants. My recovery time amazed me. I didn’t miss a day of work; I had minimal discomfort. I would recommend Dr. Ahn to anybody in South County, even if you're living above the Y, come on down because it is well worth the drive; it’s not that far."
Frequently Asked Questions
What are “bargain” dental implants?
You may see advertisements for “bargain” dental implant treatments. While cost is an issue for most people, it should never be the primary consideration. Remember that a dental implant is a surgically placed medical device that is implanted in your body. Many low-cost clinics place dental implants that cost significantly less and have no long-term research or clinical studies behind them.
Although the costs of the well-researched implant systems are higher, we only use these high-grade systems to ensure our patients receive optimal outcomes. At OC Oral Surgery, we stand behind all our treatment options and will be clear and honest regarding your treatment recommendation and fees.
Can dental implants be done in a day?
If you need a tooth extracted, we may be able to place a dental implant immediately following extraction. These are called immediate or same-day dental implants and eliminate the need to have a separate procedure for implant placement, saving you time and money. Any periodontal disease must be treated before you can receive an implant, as healthy gums are essential to successful implant placement.
Do dental implants hurt?
The procedure to place dental implants does not hurt because we use anesthesia. There are many options, including local and general anesthesia, laughing gas, and IV sedation. After surgery, some swelling can be expected, but this will subside quickly. Once healed, your implant will feel like a natural tooth and will not cause pain.
How many teeth can one implant support?
One implant post can typically support three replacement teeth, known as an implant-supported bridge. For full-arch restoration, we will use multiple implants to support a full arch of replacement teeth.
