We Value Your Comfort & Safety

At OC Oral Surgery, we prioritize our patients’ health, safety, and comfort during surgery. Our team understands the anxiety that can accompany a surgical procedure. We are here to keep you informed about your care and offer many anesthesia options for your comfort.

Anesthesia and sedation options are excellent tools that can provide you with a comfortable surgical experience, and we offer many options for you to choose from. During the first visit, Dr. Ahn will create your custom treatment plan and explain your anesthesia options. Together, you’ll select the option that’s right for you.

Types of Anesthesia

We offer several options for anesthesia and sedation.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is the use of medication to minimize fear or anxiety while maximizing comfort during a dental procedure. Children and adults can benefit from anesthesia or sedation, and it is a great tool for patients who have:

  • Fear about undergoing surgery
  • A strong gag reflex
  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Difficulty sitting still for long periods of time
  • A low pain threshold
  • Fear of needles

Some patients avoid going to the dentist or seeing an oral surgeon because of a traumatic dental experience in the past. At OC Oral Surgery, we want you to receive the care you need and trust that our team will do everything we can to provide you with a positive and comfortable experience. Patients who are fearful of oral surgery often find that with anesthesia, undergoing oral surgery can be a calm and easy experience.

Can Oral Surgeons Perform Sedation?

As the surgical specialists of the dental profession, oral and maxillofacial surgeons are trained in all aspects of anesthesia administration. Their training includes the administering of operating room anesthesia in hospitals, as well as in-office anesthesia in surgical facilities. Oral surgeons are specialists who have received the highest level of licensure for dental practitioners to perform anesthesia.

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?

When administered by a trained professional, anesthesia and sedation are safe ways to provide patients with a comfortable surgical experience. Oral surgeons are qualified dental professionals who undergo rigorous training in order to administer anesthesia safely. In addition to being an oral surgeon, Dr. Ahn is also a physician who has received additional training and qualifications to care for our patients.

How to Prepare for Anesthesia

During the consultation appointment, we will provide you with instructions to follow before your procedure. Following these instructions closely will ensure your safety during surgery. It is important to note that if you are undergoing IV sedation, you must arrange for a responsible adult to remain in the office during your procedure and drive you home after. If you have questions at any point during your treatment, contact our office and a member of our team will be happy to help.
