Treatment for Facial Trauma
The right treatment for a facial injury will depend on the nature of the injury. Dr. Ahn will use 3D scans to assess your condition and design a custom care plan, which includes the type of anesthesia for your procedure. The goal of treating facial trauma is to restore function to the head, neck, mouth, and face, while achieving aesthetically pleasing results. During surgery, we will make incisions intraorally whenever possible to reduce visible scarring.
Soft Tissue Injuries
Cuts to the soft tissue of the face are repaired using sutures. When placing sutures, we take extra care to avoid facial structures such as nerves, salivary glands, and salivary ducts.
Bone Injuries
Fractured facial bones cannot be treated with a cast like a broken arm or leg. Instead, we reposition the fractured bones and use plates or screws to stabilize them. This technique of stabilizing fractured bones is known as rigid fixation and eliminates the need to wire the jaws shut.
