The Wisdom For Wisdom program was created to provide students with free wisdom teeth extractions to compensate for the rising cost of college textbooks and help relieve financial stress. Our complimentary extraction procedure gives students a healthier smile by removing painful and often damaging wisdom teeth.
In the past decade, college textbook prices have skyrocketed. As a result, students in our community are struggling to afford the cost of higher education. Research from the American Enterprise Institute shows that textbook prices have increased over 90%. More students are unable to purchase textbooks due to soaring prices; this puts their academic future at risk. Our Wisdom For Wisdom program provides students the opportunity to put the funds they would have put toward medical bills toward their textbook costs.
The 2018 Wisdom For Wisdom application period ran from April 17, 2018, to April 30, 2018. During this time, we received applications from both high school and college students. After watching an informational video, applicants completed a short three-question quiz. The educational video was designed to educate students on the wisdom tooth extraction procedure and aftercare. As part of the application process, applicants submitted their application, explaining what the procedure would mean to them if selected. The 2018 final recipient was selected based on many factors, such as the necessity of extraction, educational achievement, and financial need.
Wisdom teeth are the last to grow into the mouth, emerging between the ages of 17 and 25. Wisdom teeth can sometimes cause the growth of harmful bacteria, which can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, and infections. By proactively removing wisdom teeth during this period, we can prevent complications and help encourage healthy oral habits.
On May 1, 2018, the final recipient of the second annual Wisdom For Wisdom program was announced on social media. Negar M., a high school student at University High School, was selected for her hard work and commitment to education. Next fall, Negar will continue her education at the university of her choice. As the final recipient of the program, Negar had her initial consultation with our practice on May 17, 2018. Her extraction procedure was performed on June 12, 2018. We are truly honored to have provided Negar with this complimentary procedure and to have helped add to her educational success.
Thank you for your interest in the Wisdom For Wisdom program! For more information on our Negar’s progress, visit our Facebook page.
